Oak Creek Residence

This unusual site was cultivated by an avid bird watcher in the 1950’s. It is located on the western edge of Fort Worth. A creek and series of dams run through the “park-like” 20 acre site gently sloping down to a large pond. Two precast concrete bridges span the creek, with an open hillside to the north, this hill was selected as the site for the new residence. There is an existing windmill and elevated tank that are being retained and incorporated into the entry court. The house is viewed as a figurative third bridge . Beginning on top of the hill as a gable form, the box under the gable continues horizontally, cantilevering as it nears the creek. An elegant series of pecan, oak, and Catalpa grace the site. The experience of walking through the trees was carried into the building through the vertical wood fins and structure of the enclosure.
