Lake Highlands North Park forms the center of a diverse middle-class community in northeast Dallas. The neighborhood became highly-engaged when the popular, but obsolete, pool in the park was slated for replacement. The architect was tasked with the siting and design of the new pavilion building, part of a seasonal aquatic center. The new center was placed along the park periphery in order to increase public accessibility and to preserve open park space, and across from the high school, where the low-slung building form transitions from institutional to residential scale.The inverted roof form creates diffuse reflections of those entering the center while providing shelter from the Texas sun. The building is constructed of load-bearing masonry with a steel and wood truss roof structure. The brick colors reference the existing reservation center building to the southwest.
